Bugonia: A Fabulous Plane Movie (March 30, 2026)
Traveling around the world for a year, I’ve not spent much time in front of screens (other than to write a blog post every day). When my family turned on our various Google TVs in our AirBnbs, I kept seeing this image shown on the home screen:
I didn’t recognize that this woman was Emma Stone. How could I?
I knew nothing about this movie other than the image above. I didn’t even recognize Emma Stone with her head shaved. But the ads clearly worked. When I was on the plane, I scrolled to see what was newly added and this one popped up. I watched knowing next to nothing about the movie. But it has everything I enjoy.
The opening of the movie you follow Jesse Plemons from Breaking Bad (among many other credits) who is clearly a conspiracy theorist. In these strange times, it’s actually enjoyable to follow the musings of someone who is clearly in an echo chamber and selectively choosing the information they choose to believe.
He and his cousin kidnap Emma Stone and the adrenaline rush begins. High intensity as we witness a highly successful CEO of a major pharmaceutical company (Emma Stone’s character) who has been kidnapped by a conspiracy theorist convinced that she’s an alien.
Intense interrogation of Emma Stone who has been kidnapped
I won’t go any further in case you haven’t watched the movie. But it’s been out since 2025 and more recently released onto streaming services (which is why it was playing on my flight).
If you have watched it already, you know what happens and how much of an adrenaline rush this movie is. And I think that’s what I’m taking away from all of this. Having had much of a content detox this year, I’m feeling more of the effects of dopamine when I do take the time to watch movies and other content.
I believe time away from movies and television has allowed my system to reset it self and now when I watch something with high intensity I’m aware of all my feelings in ways I haven’t felt before. With more peace and calm, the emotional rollercoaster of a movie like this really activates my system and stays with me longer.
All that is to say, this was both a pleasant experience and a reminder of how easy it is to fall head first into today’s content. Time away has helped me establish a new baseline and I’m taking this opportunity to evaluate all of my habits when I return to New York in 3 months time.
