Begin Greece Cruise (October 11, 2025)

All aboard!

Who says that a world tour needs to stay on land? Now that Elena is here (and Violet and I are with her in Greece), the best way to see many Greek islands is on a boat.

And the best picture I can share of this kick-off experience is when all three of us have to wear our bright orange life jackets.

Don’t we look amazing in bright orange? I say this is our “team color”

Despite how many times I’ve been on a cruise ship, somehow I seem to forget that everyone has to adorne themselves with their lifejackets and get to their muster station before we can leave the dock. This time everyone was outside and lined up on the balcony closes to the rescue boats that we would be boarding in case of an emergency. A total sea of orange people as far as the eye could see in either direction.

Can you spot the passenger with the brown glasses from Arizona?

We’re off to our first stop, Thessaloniki, tomorrow. I don’t know anything about this island except that they have amazing food. And, after all, isn’t that the most important thing when visiting Greek islands? I’m sure there’s more too it and I’ll discover more, but as long as we get to have lunch together, I’m excited to begin our island hoping adventure.

As we disembark, Violet and I walked around the ship to get acclimated. It’s always a good idea to see what parts of the ship are available to you and know where you are. That way, when you want to go somewhere you spend less time looking at maps and more, “Oh, I know where that is, it’s next to …” and begin walking in that direction.

We walked around right at sunset and got a few really nice pictures. Then we had our first really wonderful meal together. We opted for the upgraded dinner as we were all hankering for steak. We were not disappointed. Elena and I decided on the 5-course meal and the chef was having fun with all the bonus food he was serving us throughout the night.

It’s not that you typically eat “light” when you’re on a cruise ship, but this dinner was over-the-top. In Violet’s words, “This was one of the best meals I’ve ever had!” Yep. And now that we’re in Greece I anticipate it’s going to keep happening like that again and again.
