Guernsey (July 10, 2025)
Before I met John Hibbs, I fully admit I had never heard of Guernsey. With any amount of money on the line, I couldn’t have pointed to this beautiful island on a map. Now that I’ve been to this incredible island, I know just how much I’ve been missing out. It’s not an exaggeration to say it’s the first island I’ve felt the gravitation pull to move to and retire on (Elena, are you reading this? Perhaps there’s an alternative to the theoretical “Lake House” afterall.)
Stunningly beautiful beaches, aqua blue water, and ancient buildings
But let me back up here and start from the beginning. John picked me up from the airport and I wanted to get an opening shot right in front of the airport sign:

Next, John wanted me to have a proper introduction to Guernsey, so he drove me to one of the most beautiful look out points on the island. Which, if you ask the locals is debatable, but I think he’d win this argument based on how many marriage proposals are made on this exact spot each year. I mean come on. Just look at how gorgeous this is and this is the best I could do on my camera phone. Imagine a proper photo from a professional photographer.

Just. Can’t. Capture. Full. Beauty. But. Trying.
Okay. I give up. Guernsey is the kind of beautiful island that you either have been there and you know what I’m talking about, or you’ll just have to visit to truly understand. It’s a cut above so many others. It attracts so many cool people. It’s unlike so many islands I’ve been to previously. Surreal.

John went off and brought back traditional Fish & Chips and then we all enjoyed a swim in the ocean. Here again the water was much warmer than the Irish Sea and about the same temperature (maybe a little warmer) than the water in Scotland.

After a nice swim, we dried off on the beach and watched the sun set. A truly perfect first day as an introduction to Guernsey.
Watching the sun set with toes in the sand at Guernsey beach. Great 1st day!
