Lucha Libre en Mexico City (May 4, 2026)
If you’ve watch the Jack Black movie, Nacho Libre, then you know where this post is heading. When Jen Nash was thinking of wonderful things that Will and I can do in Mexico City, this was high on all of our lists. Unfortunately, Will was still feeling a bit sick, so I was fortunate that Jen could join me and take his seat.
Bill Carmody in wrestling mask with Jen adorning my banana hat
To be clear, Jen had her own wrestling mask (which I’ll share in a moment). But this seemed like the perfect banana hat picture for Mexico City given that Jen Nash started the whole banana adventure.
Quick recap: At her suggestion, Jen and I wore full banana costumes to All Day I Dream and passed out fruit to fellow ravers. The she gave me hers and Violet wore it when we both did a truly terrible comedy routine dressed in the same costumes. Someone took a video. I was asked to post it inside of PQ. One of our team members then posted in the PQ Community, and when I left PQ my goodby came from Shirzad in this style banana hat. Several of my coach friends also showed up in banana hats to send me off and Amy Moser gave me hers to take around the world as I meet up with fellow coaches (see related post). All caught up.
So it seemed fitting as I complete my world tour next month that one of the final pictures of a coach is also the very person who started all of this which is why SHE is wearing it where everywhere else it’s me wearing the banana hat. Here’s Jen how she dressed for the event:
Bill and Jen are READY … TO … RUMBLE!! (Or similar announcer kick-off)
I took a few video snippets, but this one gives you a true feel for what this event was like. Tons of amazing acrobats by various wrestlers (both women and men) performing one hell of a show. Staged? Absolutely. But it’s actually amazing to witness how these guys do NOT hurt each other. So may flips and aerials, it’s shocking that more wrestlers are not taking out in hospital stretchers. Amazing “fights” that are so fun to watch.
What’s more, we had what can only be described as “Alcohol Free Beer Candy.” In Mexico, they go so much further than the salt or sugar rimmed glasses for margaritas. Here, they roll the 32 ounce cup in a red syrup with roasted sesame seeds and turn every “sip” into a small bite of candy. Genius. No wonder they sell so many here.
But, of course, the best Mexican dessert is clearly Churros. We found a street vendor that sold 3 for 15 pesos (about 85 cents … for THREE).
I have no idea what look I was going for, but it didn’t work as intended
Really amazing night. Great show. Great company. Amazing shirts and souvenirs. So glad I was able to make this work and fortunate that Jen had suggested it. What a wonderful way to wrap up Mexico City.
