Pacific Harbour Beach, Fiji (March 4, 2026)

After five or so days of non-stop, pouring rain, seeing the sun was magical and so uplifting. I don’t rely on the weather for my mood, but these past 7 months have been essentially chasing the eternal summer across the globe, so it was bizarre to spend much of Fiji in the torrential rain. It’s not what any of us were anticipating.

Today is precisely what we were envisioning when we decided to fly to Fiji. It would look something like this:

Tropical green jungle contrasted by big bright blue sky and SUN

Elena and I woke up at 5:45am and watched a beautiful sunrise. We then went for an epic walk around Pacific Harbour and split off when I wanted to walk on the beach for another mile and Elena decided to go back for her full beach attire.

The morning walk produced many beautiful shots now that the sun is up in all her glory.

Did you see the way the sun impacted the photos? There’s a black and white quality to them turning into the bright blue sky. Something about the way the morning sun is striking the lens. And yes, my iPhone is giving me all the signals of “I’m going to need to be replaced … SOON!” But I think it was the light that made these images so unique.

In any event, Elena and I spoke with the guard out front of The Pearl resort and he confirmed we can purchase a day pass for $55 fjd, and $40 of it goes to a food purchase. WHAT? Count us IN for that. Of course, Will and Violet had other plans. They were excited to romp around in the jungle of our AirBnb back yard with the machete. Totally understandable. That means, Elena and I had a “date day” at the nearby resort. And what a DAY!

We lounged by the pools, read our books, then went for a swim in the ocean. The Fijian water is so warm … almost too warm for a hot and sunny day like today. No complaints! Just an observation. We met Devon who is from LA here with her fiancé and discovered we’re both going scuba diving tomorrow at the same place … just different dives at different times. We’re going diving with sharks (which Devon and her fiancé will do on Saturday).

Speaking of sharks, I actually saw one not too far from the beach. I was swimming towards a buoy and saw the head of the shark followed by its dorsal fin. That was enough to have me swim back closer to the shore and eventually go in for lunch.

We loved The Pearl resort. Because we’re here in the raining season (i.e. the “wet” season), we had the place to ourselves. For a good 2 hours, we were the only ones on lounge chairs by the pool and other than Devon, we weren’t seeing many other guests. We loved the artwork and the place overall. It truly was a wonderful day in the sun. So glad we get to experience this side of Fiji too!
