Super Bowl Monday? (February 9, 2026)
While exploring the town of Pōhara, New Zealand, we came across this sign outside of a local pub:
Due to the time difference, New Zealand is 18 hours ahead of New York
It reminded Elena, Violet and me that we could, in fact, enjoy the Super Bowl live at the pleasant (and even preferable) hour of 12:30pm in the afternoon. There was just one problem: the ads would all be from New Zealand. Why is that a problem? Because for years, that’s the number one reason my family gets together to watch the Super Bowl.
In fact, when we’re not at someone’s house for a Super Bowl watching party (thank you, Scott and Claudia Barbey!) We will use our Tivo to record the Super Bowl, have a leisurely start and fast forward through the game to get to the commercials.
Luckily, we’re not the only ones out there who prefer the commercials and half time show to the sporting event itself. Many others have created ad compilations and post them on YouTube, such as:
And yes, this is not the complete and most comprehensive set of all the ads that ran during the Super Bowl, but it enabled us to watch the most popular and likely to be talked about ads on all the podcasts that Elena enjoys listening to (especially Sarah & Vinny who we grew up with listening to in the San Francisco Bay Area when we were first married back in 2000).
We realized after watching this reel that there were no movie trailers, so we searched specifically for this and found what we were looking for based on what we where hearing:
The only thing was, we didn’t see the Supergirl movie trailer that we were anticipating seeing, so we knew we’d have to look for that one separately. Once again, YouTube did not disappoint:
Despite feeling “caught up” with all the commercial buzz happening the day after the Super Bowl, I double checked and caught a few more that I had missed including the “top ten” list:
In any event, it was a relatively relaxing day. A few days ago, I pulled a muscle in my right leg. At 53, I’m now at the age when I don’t necessarily “feel” the incident when it happens, but I certainly notice the slower recovery time. So, taking it easy was the right call and thankfully we had lots to commercials to watch and enjoy together as a family … and a little bit of heart-wrenching feeling bad for the New England Patriots being dominated by the Seattle Seahawks.
If you had asked me who was playing in the Super Bowl before the game started, I wouldn’t have had the foggiest idea. If you asked me where the Seahawks are from, I would not have immediately known the team was from Seattle. Not a big sports fan (obviously), but enjoy watching this one football game annually. Hope you enjoyed your Sunday (or Monday depending on your timezone) wherever you were or whatever you choose to do with it.
