Yoga with Adriene - Body Saving Pro Tip (September 21st)

I wish I remembered which Yoga teacher first turned me on to Yoga with Adriene — totally free (and awesome) yoga videos on YouTube from Adriene Mishler. I may never have the opportunity to thank her in person, but without a doubt I owe my healthy body to Andriene Mishler’s “Yoga with Adriene” YouTube video series.

Essential daily dose of content on YouTube: Yoga with Adriene

Before I left New York, I was working out more than five days a week. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 5:30am, I went to the gym for weight lifting and bodybuilding. Monday night was an evening Karate class with my peer groups. Tuesday evening I had an hour long in-person yoga class. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings, I had one hour of Soo Bahk Do, Moo Duk Kwan. Then Saturday I would join my wife for a second yoga class. My body loved it.

Then, on June 30th, 2025 I began traveling the world. Access to the gym was sporadic at best. I was disconnected from my karate and yoga practice. For awhile, I figured increasing my step count from 10,000 steps a day to over 20,000 was enough, but it wasn’t. So I found my way back to the gym and continued my weight lifting — that is until I activated my hernia and that almost ended my World Tour right there.

The doctor’s orders were clear. No more lifting heavy weights. Aerobic was fine, but no more body building or weight lifting until I had surgery to fix my hernia. I was bummed out for awhile, until I remembered I didn’t need a gym membership, I just needed to return to my daily routine of yoga:

And every day since has been better than the previous. If you haven’t discovered, Yoga with Adriene, you’re going to love this. Adriene is the most loving and encouraging yoga instructor you’ll ever met. She works out with her dog and you feel like she’s in your living room giving you a private lesson.

She’s done so many videos, you can select whatever kind of yoga you wish to do. Is your neck sore? Lower back? Shoulders tight? Just search it up and you’ll see not only does she have a video, but they are usually about 20 to 25 minutes in length. Perfect to grab the two you need most and do them back-to-back.

One of the main things I miss when traveling is my ergonomic foam pillow. It perfectly supports my neck back home and minimizes any pain I have there. In addition, to write on my computer, I don’t have my full keyboard and ergonomic set-up, so it’s a double whammy. My neck has been taking an awful beating.

Thank you, Adriene! Moreover, my body thanks you. Despite sleeping on weak ass pillows and craning my neck to write all these blog posts, these daily videos have helped me put my neck, shoulders and lower back right into their proper place so that I am back to being pain free. What a relief. If you’re not hip to Yoga with Adriene, make sure you check her out. You’ll easily fall in love with her humble nature and giant loving heart. She’s a wonderful example of how to create massive impact by doing what you love and are passionate about.

She’s teaching me more than yoga. She’s showing me a path to show up more fully in everything that I do. I truly am grateful for her and the work she’s done for so many pain sufferers and those who desire to have a regular yoga practice, but for whatever reason are unable to do so in person.
