Last Full Day in Fiji (March 10, 2026)
Fiji has been fun — especially the night life and the most amazing scuba dive to date. On our last day here in Fiji, we’ve decided to head back to our favorite (local) resort, The Pearl to play in the sun. Our day pass is mostly a pre-purchase food credit (for an epic lunch) while also giving us access to their pools, beach front access, showers, bathrooms and lounge chairs. (Not to mention a pool table and even some chess boards).
It’s our favorite kitty here in Fiji (available in the local dive shop)
The thing is, Will’s stomach is bothering him and Violet just wants to keep sleeping — especially if Will is staying back to continue his epic journey watching more than 400 episodes of One Pace (the fan version of Once Piece which has 1,155 episodes to date).
I am grateful that I am not obsessed with One Piece. Well, that’s not exactly true, I’m enjoying the much slimmed down live action version on Netflix. I’m sure much of the nuance storytelling is gone, but think of the weeks of my life I get back ;-) and more time for:
Super cute kitty. Yes, that means we buy more merchandise at the dive shop. Good sales technique all around!
But, I digress. Everyone has their own thing. I’m enjoying my time with my family even if it’s different than how I originally imagined it would be. That’s the thing about “expectations” — a friend of mine referred to them as pre-meditated resentments and that’s stuck with me.
Letting go of all expectations is such freedom. Not easy to do, to be sure, but every expectation I release leads me to increased presence and happiness.
Will, Elena and I walk and watch the sun rise on the beach in Fiji
Elena woke up early this morning and so did Will, so the three of us drove down to the Pacific Harbour beach to go for a morning walk and watch the sun rise a little after 6am. There were a few friends who met us there and excitedly greeted us:

What a lovely morning with (most of) my family. Sun’s up. Morning light is striking the beach and ocean beautify. Palm trees, warm water, happy family. What more could I desire?
And yet, there were more surprises and delights as we continued our walk. Like this pink flower that was just starting to open up.

Or this creek leading into the ocean with all kinds of beautiful sandy designs which appear to be freshly made. I wonder if this happens each morning when the water is strong enough to meet the ocean. It looks like it’s dug out, but in a haphazard sort of way.
I’m deeply grateful for this time in Fiji. It’s forced us to slow down and appreciate all the many gifts we have and often overlook each day. Today there’s a greater awareness of all that we have – including each other on this incredible glorious day. As we exit our of our AirBnb, return the rental car and make our way to the airport hotel (so that we don’t have to travel at 3am tomorrow), I’m experiencing this deep gratitude for our time together.
