Phuket Bird Park (March 14, 2026)

Growing up, I had a pet parakeet for as long as I can remember. My first parakeet was named “Joker” because he loved to do all sorts of tricks. He would do loop-de-loops on my finger. He’d repeat words and (if memory serves) whole sentences. He’d whistle songs and make me laugh with all his silliness. But mostly, he just like hanging out on my shoulder most of the day. I’d do homework while he’d nestle up on my right shoulder. Sometimes he’d gently pull on my earlobe to get my attention — especially if he was hungry and wanted to go back in his cage to feed himself.

All of these memories came back as I witnessed each of my family members have small colorful parrots feed from their hands, arms and even their heads.

Of course, I’m just giving you the highlights here. There were so many birds. If you just wanted to look, that’s perfectly fine, but if you want them to rest on your shoulder, eat from your hands (or head) or just get pictures with the birds, all of that is part of the experience.

So this bird park had all sorts of feeding stations. You could feed fish, bunnies (pictured above), goats (see above) and ostrich. Wait, say that last one again? Did you say ostrich? After our initial shock, we leaned in and why not? It was like watching one of Jim Hansen’s muppets eat. And it was satisfying.

Is this not the face you would LOVE to feed?

This was everything we could want in a bird park. Exotic birds, a well designed show where birds perform tricks like raising the flag of Thailand, flipping up a sign that reads “Welcome!” and playing the 3 card monte with the audience. It was a really fun day and lots of great time spent together. Great way to kick off our time here in Thailand.
