Croatia: Adriatic Sea (August 13, 201

Okay, Elena (my wife), if you’re reading this you TOTALLY should be here for this part of the trip. Yes, I know you’re psyched to meet up with me in Italy in about a month from now, but as a self-described “cold blooded” reptile who can never get warm enough, this is your country.

Croatia is as beautiful as everyone says it is. With over 1,200 islands, it would take a lifetime to attempt to see them all. Thankfully, when I met up with Nikola Maras and his family, we were only headed two two relatively near-by swimming locations that are part of the Adriatic Sea, which is a branch of the Mediterranean Sea.

So that last image in the gallery is actually a sunken boat that is in relatively shallow water. The water is so clear that even without my facemask you can see the most prominent parts of the sunken boat. I know I should have packed my swim goggles and Elena will be bringing them to me next month. I was trying to pack light and went a little “too light” and now I know that swim goggles should have made the list of “what to absolutely bring on your trip around the world.”

Unlike the Irish Sea, which was freezing cold the first week of July when I went in with Sean Griffin, the Adriatic Sea was really pleasant to swim around in. I probably spent a solid two hours in the water and it was really refreshing. Speaking of Sean Griffin, he and Anne-Marie Griffin are now proud parents of baby Leo!!!

Baby Leo Griffin arrived on August 6th, 7.3lbs and the good looks of dad!

If you’ve been following along, I started my World Tour with Anne-Marie Griffin who, at the time, was 35 weeks pregnant. And you’d never know it as she walked several thousand steps with me daily from in the city of Dublin to the base of Wicklow Mountains to Avondale Treetop walk, where we walked above the treeline in this nature park.

To say I’m impressed with Anne-Marie is an understatement. She’s a badass and will be an incredible mother. Leo is so lucky to have her as his mom and Sean as his dad. He’s going to be raised by some incredible parents in one of the most amazing places in the world: Greystones, Ireland.

All I can tell Leo is that if he can handle the Irish Sea, he’s going to love the Adriatic Sea when he visits Croatia and/or Italy. But we’re getting a few years ahead of ourselves.

Back to Nikola Maras and his family. All I an say is that once again I’ve been welcomed into another beautiful home as an extended member of the family. I love being here and I’m enjoying the exploration of Croatia. I know I’m just starting my journey, but there are so many pictures if you’re interested in seeing more of Croatia. In the meantime, I’ll post about the mountains we visited next.
